Presented by OSCH President Debbie Bensching LCSW, This workshop will review information related to the clinical applications, prerequisites, and contraindications of using exploratory, insight oriented, and uncovering techniques to address a range of clinical conditions. Debbie will bring a trauma informed lens to applications of 4 or more hypnotic exploratory and uncovering techniques that will be presented for use in clinical practice. These techniques can be used with a range of clients with or without a trauma background. Factors in decision making for technique choice will serve as the basis for discussing treatment options and clinical applications. Participants will have opportunity to observe demonstration of techniques, practice 2 of the techniques appropriate to their clinical setting and discuss applications from a clinical case presentation.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this workshop the participant will be able to:
- Describe rational for using hypnotic exploratory and uncovering techniques.
- Identify prerequisites for the safe use of hypnotic exploratory and uncovering techniques
- Identify 3 or more clinical situations contraindicated for exploratory work
- List 4 or more factors in decision making to use exploratory and uncovering techniques
- Describe and apply three or more hypnotic insight-oriented techniques for uncovering clinically relevant information
- Observe demonstration of 2 or more of the hypnotic techniques presented and discuss how they can be helpful in furthering desired clinical outcomes.
- Demonstrate the ability to use 2 of the hypnotic techniques presented
- Discuss practice applications for clients with complex clinical presentations
Debbie Bensching, LCSW, LICSW, ACSW, MSWAC, ASCH Approved Consultant. Debbie is clinically licensed in both Oregon and Washington state, has her national master’s certification in addictions, and is an ASCH Approved consultant in clinical hypnosis. She has been in private practice in Portland Oregon since 1992 where she provides both direct clinical services to clients and provides supervision, consultation, and training to other practitioners in her areas of specialty. In her clinical practice she focuses on non-pharmaceutical approaches such as hypnosis, EMDR, and Brain Spotting to name a few. Her primary clinical focus is with complex trauma, impacts of developmental trauma, addictions & recovery, affective disorders, and mental performance training. Debbie is active in several of her professional organizations. She is the current President of the Oregon Society of Clinical Hypnosis (OSCH), is the Component Division Chair for the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), works with the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) to support brining clinical hypnosis training to its members and is a member in good stand with the International Society of Hypnosis (ISH) and the National Association of Clinical Social Workers (NASW National and Oregon).
Schedule:
The training runs from 9am to 5pm (with OSCH Meeting & Social Time from 8:30 - 9am).
Approved for 6.5 ASCH CE credits and 6.5 CE credits from NASW OR accepted by most licensing boards in Oregon. Check with your own licensing board on CE guidelines if you have questions.
Oregon Society of Clinical Hypnosis Training Fees:
$140 OSCH, ASCH, SCEH, & other Component Societies Member (late $165)
$100 Associate Member (late $125)
$170 Non-Member (late $195)
$110 Non-Member Student/Intern/Resident (late $135).
Participants must be licensed health care providers (social workers, counselors, nurses, psychologists, dentists, physicians, etc. with a masters or doctorate) with prior training in clinical hypnosis. Residents, interns, and students are eligible if enrolled in a masters or doctoral program and have prior training in clinical hypnosis. For exceptions to prior training please email info@oregonhypnosis.org.
Please note: This is an advanced training. Attendees must have completed the prerequisite of an ASCH-certified Fundamentals in Clinical Hypnosis course, or the equivalent, in order to be eligible for this training.

Event Cancellation Refund Policy:
Cancellation refund requests submitted in writing to info@oregonhypnosis.org at least 21 days before the start of the workshop will receive an 100% refund of the amount paid less a $20 administrative charge. Cancellation refund requests received 20 -15 days before the start of the workshop will receive a 50% refund of the amount paid less a $20 administrative charge. No refund will be issued for requests made with 14 days notice or less.
Course Completion Requirements: Sign in and out on time (per times indicated on agenda); complete the entire course; complete course evaluation.
Issuance of Completion Certificate:
Certificates will be issued in-person at the conclusion of the training day.
OSCH reserves the right to provide a member or 'workshop registrant 'a full refund or credit toward a future workshop in special circumstances for compassionate relief at OSCH board of directors' leadership discretion. Requests must be made in writing prior to the events conclusion. Should the event be postponed due to the pandemic escalating we will follow up with registrants regarding refunds and rescheduling; the option of a full refund will be offered.
